Sponsored Skydive: Raising money to support local good causes in the Buckingham area.

Grand Union Lodge 9641 Skydivers

Recently at Hinton in the Hedges Airfield, Grand Union Lodge members with wives and friends took to the air to raise money to support two most worthy local causes.

Max Judge, a local lad of 21 years of age and a very keen sportsman had his right leg amputated at the hip to prevent the spread of Cancer. Following the healing process Max will require a prosthetic leg and this very sophisticated piece of equipment will cost approximately £90,000. The local community has come together with a variety of initiatives to raise the money and we are delighted to report that the target has now been achieved. Grand Union Lodge 9641 is very proud to have supported this Appeal with our Skydive contribution of £5000.

Regular readers of Concord will also be aware of the continuing support the Lodge provides for our Tommy Fleming Appeal. Tommy has suffered since birth with Wolf Hirschorn syndrome and as a result is extremely disabled. Tommy now attends regularly at the PACE Centre in Aylesbury and funds from our Appeal were recently used to upgrade the outside courtyards to facilitate wheelchair access.

Proceeds from our Skydive will be used to provide Tommy with a Lycra suit to improve his posture and will also go towards procedure provided by GAZE, a treatment which should improve his vision.

Update:

Max has been working really hard practicing with his new prosthetic leg. This is much more advanced than the first one he had. It’s designed by a company called Ottobock who make some of the most high tech prosthetics in the world.

It still takes a lot of energy and strength to manoeuvre the leg, but Max is making huge improvements every week! This allows him to have more independence, confidence and safety.

He doesn’t wear it all the time because it can be tiring, but when he does he loves showing it off. It even has a secret party trick!
